Artist Statement

Who/Where: My name is Cullen Melloy, I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

What: I draw and create characters, I'm currently enrolling at MCAD, where I intend to learn to and create stories and situations for these characters in either comics or animations.

When: Recently, I've just finished this years Inktober, where I followed along the prompt list making a different drawing everyday. I did the same thing a year prior, but this year I had switched it up by using black paper and white ink rather than the usual white paper/black ink combo

Why: I make what I make because I'm inspired by the stories I read, the movies I watch, and the art I experience. It drives me to put my own spin on it, to create and to hopefully inspire people to do the same in the process. Every artist has their own unique strengths and weakness's that set their art apart from others and make them fantastic.

Basic Ideas

Audience: Right now, my audience to my art consists mainly of my friends and family, and my Instagram following, who mostly come from my fan art of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which has been very influential on my recent art, inspiring me to improve and take my art seriously.

Method: For my traditional work, I usually use pencils, ink, then colored pencils and use a sharpie to outline the silhouette. My digital art I try to use the same process but try to make it more polished in line quality and saturation in colors.

Awards: In high school, I was given an Honorable Mention from a Scholastic art submission for my piece Anarchy, a self-portrait of myself using all the ink from a single bic pen on paper, as you see on the right here ------>
